Dream Destinations: Nantucket

The weather in the Northeast has gone back to cold, dreary and windy these past few days. But after enjoying some warm, beautiful weather, I'm just happy knowing that soon there'll be many more days like that. In the meantime, I'm dreaming of sunny places and beachy getaways. Our one year wedding anniversary is coming up next month, so we've been thinking of different places and things we'd like do to celebrate. One place I'd love to visit is Nantucket. A beautiful, historic island just off the coast of Massachusetts, Nantucket is the epitome of a laid back, New England lifestyle. Today I've put together a small collection of gorgeous Nantucket homes and interiors, so let's leave these gray skies behind and transport ourselves into the weathered cottages of this amazing island.

Nantucket homes have become famous for their particular decorating style. When we speak of Nantucket Style, we're talking about textures, natural elements, seafaring motifs, and colors inspired by the sky, sea and it's landscape: bright whites, navy blues, soft greens, soothing aquas and grays, browns, and cranberry reds. It's a simple, yet elegant style that uses natural finishings that look weathered and time-worn, and materials such as cobblestones, wood, slate, wicker, and metals. For decorating, its common to see seashells, whale bone, and nautical artifacts: oars, lanterns, model ships, etc.

I love how this living room looks quaint, yet modern at the same time. Isn't it wonderful? It belongs to the cottage in the first photo. I know hubby would agree with me in saying we could happily live here the rest of our days.

These next few pictures all belong to this gorgeous house. This particular New England style of architecture is one of my favorites.

I like how they used two completely different color palettes for the kitchen/ family room and the living room, while still using the same materials. Here it's all about soft aquas and sparkling whites. The furniture looks a bit more worn-in and relaxed. I just want to curl up on that sofa after a day at the beach and put my feet up.

Then the living room is a little more formal, again using white but pairing it with natural textures and colors, and a beautiful coral shade.

I love this cushion! I need one for our sofa ASAP. Who cares if we're not in Nantucket? Design is also about fantasy, making your home a place where you feel relaxed and capable of indulging in daydreams.

Now this home, is all about island style with a modern twist. I dream of an all-white kitchen with industrial pendant lights and pretty garden views.

Nantucket homes also have an incredible mix of antiques. The dark wood looks lovely against the whites and grays.

This Nantucket home was featured in Elle Decor. The interiors are definitively more contemporary, but they still retain a certain sea-faring vibe.

Another exterior I just loved!

Confession: I have a slight obsession with coffee table books. They just look so good wherever you place them! And of course, if you love the content, even better. I think this one: Nantucket Island Living would surely do double duty! (You can order it on Amazon). I hope you guys enjoyed this little trip to Nantucket! I'll let you know if we end up going!
