Fashion Icons: Oscar de la Renta

Dominicana Moda's 2010 (Dominican Fashion Week) guest of honor needs no introduction. Oscar de la Renta, artist, couturier, philanthropist, presented one of his latest collections as the closing ceremony to this year's DM fashion week. I do not believe for a single minute, that there is a person in this world who does like Oscar de la Renta's work. It's impossible not to love everything this man does, even if isn't your particular style. His pieces are so elegant and sophisticated, and obviously designed by someone who understands women and our need to feel pretty every once in a while.

One of the things I love most about him personally, is the loyalty he has for his homeland. Every time he is invited to some event we're doing, whether it's fashion or charity related, he is always present. I don't imagine Oscar de la Renta has a lot of free time, so it's important to recognize and applaud people like him. I have loved his designs from very early on, as he is probably my mom's favorite fashion designer. Now that I'm a little older, I have to say he has become my favorite as well. The flowery patterns, the intense color, the full skirts, the beautiful dresses, the girly essence of his designs are things I identify with completely. I'm gonna share a little secret with you guys today. Just don't tell anyone, ok? I... hate... pants. I said it! If it were up to me, I'd be in a skirt or a dress ALL THE TIME. Ask anyone who knows me and they'll tell you that this is completely true. I actually look better in skirts and dresses than in pants, so you see? It all works out in the end! I'm such a girly girl... and this is completely fine by me. =)

As far as girly goes, no one does this better than Mr. de la Renta. So, as sort of an homage to him and my eternal obsession with womanly garments, I've put together a small collection of some of my favorite Oscar de la Renta designs. Hope you enjoy them!

No one does a sundress better than this man...

The full, ikat skirts... beautiful!

Don't you just love the intricate beading on this cocktail dress? It has the same design on the front.

I . WANT . THIS . DRESS.

I have not been able to get this particular design out of my mind since the first time saw it. I love the yellow.

Oscar de la Renta's gowns are a dream...

If I had one of these, I'd never want to wake up!
